A gem from an old firing. Usually this effect is achieved in a hard brick kiln, where the sodium carbonate is introduced at the end with the pots all white hot. If I did that in the glaze kiln, the vapors would eat up the soft brick and it would soon fall down. I use a soda wash, so I get what they call a local effect. The trick is to soak the pot just long enough, but not too long. I took a big risk with such big pretty pots this time, but I have to say I hit this one on the nose.
